Goodness of people: A 'just now' experience

It is 9.40am on this fine Saturday morning and I am on my way to my village to meet up with my parents.

I am riding in a chartered cab from Enugu ...it is like a 2 hour road trip so even though I hate road trips, I can cope with this + my dad called to tell me the stuff he bought for me and I would be just silly to pass up on this visit (yes yes, I am a proud 'daddy's girl')

Anyway, the reason for this post is my Cab driver, Basil.

I intended to take a bus to abia tower and then take a cab to my village from there and I was going to use Peace Mass. I have not been able to withdraw cash since yesterday and so I had to figure out the cheapest way to get home.

I called Basil at about 8am and asked him to come and take me to the bus park...his first question was why? I explained to him.

He picked me up at 8.48am and randomly said I should have told him about my trip the day before so he would have taken me but he already had a trip booked for 11am with another client.

Next thing I know, he makes a few calls, takes me to another cab driver, negotiates for the driver to take me to my village for 8k (it would usually cost 10k, without the fuel scarcity), paid 3k and asked me to give the driver only 5k.

He didn't even charge me for the pick up this morning from my house.

I think I have been lucky to have such random acts of kindness come my way...I don't know if you have too. I do know though, that if you allow yourself to become an engine for random goodness to people, the legacy you will leave behind will be great. I hope this inspires you to be kind to one another...Basil certainly just inspired me.

Thank you Basil.
