New Woman Crush Alert: Toke Makinwa

A lot of people around me do not particularly have love for Toke Makinwa and honestly, about a year and a half ago, I really didn't care much for her. But then, she was all up in all our faces, so I noticed her and tired to learn a thing or two about her.

All I can talk about are based on things I have read in interviews, things I have seen on her social media space and my perception of her...I do not know her personally or have any privy information on her life or any person giving me information about her.

So here goes.

She is VERY hard/smart working: We all know she pretty much built herself from the ground up. She was not one of those overnight successes we come across every once in a while. She pretty much hustled it up in front of all of us. And she has been consistent in moving from one project to another to another and never seems to rest on her oars.

Her skin is made of diamonds: I do not mean that they glitter in the sun light...I have never seen her before, so I wouldn't know. I mean that she seems impenetrable by hate, pain and misfortune. I remember when all we could talk about was how long she had dated one person; and then it became her cases of break-up and re-union; and then it became her 'sudden' wedding and then people trolled her on how she was being an irresponsible wife by traveling and living her life and then just this weekend, the story of her husband's unfaithfulness made Nigerian social media space buzz. I thought about the latest situation and I thought about how if this happened to me, I would probably lock myself in for a day or two and call in sick at work and stay in bed. I wondered if I would speak on the matter to anyone or if I would put out posts on social media. My mind pondered on different things but it certainly did not contemplate carrying on with my life with the same gusto and pump as I had the day/week before. It doesn't seem like Toke lost the spring in her steps. She is human and is probably feeling pain, but her diamond skin is certainly built to handle it all and keep her looking beautiful despite it. This is probably the reason I am crushing on her so much this morning.

She publicly praises and celebrates God: In this day and age when being christian is akin to not being cool, going through her posts where she shares pages of open heavens and biblical verses and writes about God's glory in her life has honestly inspired me to pray more and try more in this quest to hold on fast to my creator.

The latest events in her life and the way she had handled it in the past 24 hours have been peak for me, into how a woman with a purpose and her God can raise above hurt and pain. We do not know the whole story (I hope one day we will) but I do know that it takes grace to handle this whole episode the way she has so far. I can only imagine what her show this morning will be like...I will tune in online to find out.

Update: I tuned in and I listened for about an hour and let us just say, my crush on her has increased. She didn't skip a breath or sound confused or even heavy. Now, THAT right there is a professional character.
