DIY you should learn

When you go from paying N4, 500 to get your nails done to hearing $80 for a simple polish change especially now that $1 is N280 (save yourself an unnecessary gasp by NOT doing the math), you really get forced to evaluate your DIY Skills.

If you are not able to do anything for yourself and have no self-use DIY skills, well, maybe yu should consider learning. Here are a few I am glad I learnt early in life

1. Manicure and Pedicure

I got nail polish, polish remover and cotton wool for under $20 and hooked myself up. I'm lucky, I have natural nails that are strong and look sculpted so maybe that's a plus but truly, just knowing how to file and buff and polish your nails will save you so much when the chips are down.

2. Hair Styling and grooming

I have not yet perfected the art of braiding all of my own hair or sewing in weaves myself but when the front of hair gets rough, I'm able to redo it, wash it, tease it, style it and come out looking like I just paid a visit to the saloon.

3. Basic make up

Yes yes, if we all learn how to do glam make-up, make up artists won't have jobs anymore...so no, don't learn the glam. But learn the day-to-day that makes you look pretty and covers up most of your acne and spots (if you, like me, have skin that you are in a constant battle with)

4. Cooking

Ok. This one is not exactly cheaper all the time but it's healthier and totally helps you escape the extra weight that is just waiting to jump on your body.

5. Basic and plumbing and electricals

I watched my brother spend two hours trying to fix the telephone line. It may have taken a line guy slightly less time and he would have had to pay at least $150. But figuring it out saved that money and made for good family time.

What other DIY skills and Tips do you think everyone should learn?
