I am Nigerian, we don't fall for rookie scams

You people should help me see problem in this yankee I came to.

In January, I sent in my voice sample and bio to be selected for a voice project. I got a reply saying I wasn't picked and I would be contacted for other jobs that came up.

A while after that, I got an email saying I had been selected as a secret shopper to investigate services at walmart and western union. A few weeks ago, I got a mail saying I should expect a parcel with my evaluation assignment and the funds for the evaluation. The parcel came in and contained 2 cheques of $2390.00 each.

Now, in America, if you deposit a cheque of under $2500, most banks will make the funds available to you before verifying that the cheque is real. If it then turns out that the cheque doesn't clear after 3 days, the bank will take back the money from your account. If you've spent the money and don't have funds available in your account to be deducted, well, you owe the bank. (See how easy it is to just have your financial life messed up abi?)

So, these scammers, knowing this about the banking system, sent me 2 cheques with the perfect amount of money and change to make it possible for me to get cash in from my bank without having the cheque verified

Now, 2000 dollars is not the type of money a right thinking person would send to a total stranger, just like that. I was suspicious so I got the cheque verified. Truly, it was a non-existent account number. I decided to take the scammers for a ride and kept giving them false updates  for two days. At a point, I could feel the frustration in the tone of text I was getting.

First I said that I had deposited the cheque, then they asked me to take 300 dollars as my payment and then buy whatever I wanted for 50 dollars and then send 1000 to another secret shopper somewhere in the US and 1000 to another in Pakistan. I told them 1st the first cheque was returned as being fake and that the bank refused to give me the cash. They asked me to use my card. I offered to take the other cheque to another bank and they encouraged me to hurry. They made it look like it was urgent. I told them I was at walmart and the western union service was unavailable.  You guys won't believe the speed with which they sent me all the western union locations around me to go and send the money.

All this while, I was on my bed.

I decided to let it go and focus on important things so I asked, "Are you American?"

"sure".
"Well, I'm not"

"Where are you from?"
"You know my name. Take a wild guess."

"It sounds African"
"Ah yes...Nigerian as a matter of fact. We are born wise. We don't fall for rookie scams."

It's been almost a week. I haven't heard from them since.
