I.Am.A.Feminist
I was a guest on a radio show recently (that's strange right? considering my deepest passion is being the host of radio shows...lol...but it was a fun experience) and the topic of discussion was Feminism. The host had come across Chimamanda Adichie's "We should all be Feminists" TedX speech and, in his words "did not agree with some things she said".
A few people who know me would know that I have that speech on my phone...I have also used parts of it on different radio shows in the near past and I have encouraged so many people to listen to it with an open mind. That speech, since I came across it in 2014, has helped me recognise that I am a Feminist and even more, helped me define the kind of feminist I am (yes ladies, believe it or not, there are different kinds of feminists).
I am a Feminist.
I love men.
I am learning to love other sexes (mostly because it takes some time to understand new things to the point of loving them).
I am not in a subconscious battle with men (or any other sex) to prove I am anything.
I am a Feminist...
...to me, it means, I am human first, then a woman second.
...to me, it means, everyone I meet is human first, then whatever sex they are, second.
...to me, it means, I MUST interact with people based, first, on their human qualities NOT on their sex, sexual preference, sexual identity, culture, tribe, religion, location, mode of self expression or anything.
...to me, it means, I am not in a race with anyone.
I am a Feminist.
It doesn't make me less sexual;
I don't have to be a tom-boy (even though I'm comfortable being one)
I embrace my femininity and if I like a dress that shows my cleavage, I will wear it and flaunt it.
I do not wear the pants in the home...I am the boss of me but so is the man i will choose to give my heart to.
I am a Feminist.
I love to cook.
I hate to make my bed and scrub the floors.
I enjoy doing laundry with a machine.
These do not make me more or less of a woman...they do not make me more or less of a human.
They make me me.
I am a Feminist.
I love men.
I have no trouble serving the men I love and respect.
I have no trouble serving the women I love and respect.
It isn't about your sex, when I look at you;
It is about the kind of head that rests on your shoulders.
I am a Feminist.
I will speak up when a woman is being hurt.
I will speak up when a man is being hurt.
Your sex doesn't make you one way or the other...it's your head and heart that do that.
You are Human...in your head and heart...and that's what counts.
I.Am.A.Feminist...the kind that is a human being before being a Woman.
Amazing article but its quiet unfortunate how very little reason this way, that's what hurts the world. i think the "ists" we have in the world today causes social divides which brings about so much hatred..
ReplyDeletetrue....and it all starts with a few people thinking differently and living the ideology positively
